WEEKEND PREVIEW - NOVEMBER 9
After the Hampshire Saturday Trophy dominated last weekend's fixtures, it's very much back to league action this weekend, although four of our teams are still in cup action.
In the Senior Division, there are three teams at the top level on 25 points. Two of them play each other as Locks Heath host Andover Town (who have a game in hand) in what is clearly a massive game, firstr v third. Hardly any less important is the game at Winchester as second-placed Colden Common host Liphook United, just a point behind in fourth.
Hook have risen to fifth on the back of five league wins in a row, all at home. They travel to Sway, who won a big bottom four game last weekend at Moneyfields Res to end a poor run.
Moneys Res visit in-form Harvest this time round. Liss Athletic are in sixth after five league wins (some big scores amongst them) in a row and they travel to Denmead who are on the up against after a poor run.
In mid-table, Bishops Waltham Dynamos have climbed above Hedge End Rangers after contrasting form in the last few weeks; the two meet this weekend at Mountbatten. Meon Milton, who knocked out the Hampshire Trophy holders last weekend, travel to Whitehill & Bordon, who beat the Hampshire Trophy finalists the weekend before.
In an delayed George Mason Memorial Shield first round tie, Stockbridge are at home to bottom of the table Paulsgrove in an all-Senior Division match-up.
In Division One, leaders Broughton are in cup action, so second-placed Crofton Saints could move to within a point of them if they win at mid-table Headley United, who are in decent form in the league. Three teams are just behind Crofton - Upham, who have had tough trips to Whitecroft & Barton and Millbrook in the last week, have a home game this coming Saturday against third-bottom Whiteley Wanderers, who also came unstuck on the Island last weekend.
Hedge End Town, who lost their HST crown last Saturday, can concentrate on the league this time round, and have an entertaining-looking away match against Rushmoor Community, who are only a place below them. Hayling United have climbed away from the foot of the table recently, and will hope for something at AFC Netley, who are just ahead of them and are also showing signs of improvement.
QK Southampton are still bottom despite some new players and some better form, and they have a difficult trip to Silchester.
There are also two games in the North Hampshire Intermediate Cup for our Division One clubs; leaders Broughton will look to get back to form after their unbeaten run was rudely ended by AFC Shirley in the HST last weekend, they are to home to Overton United U23; and Overton's first team, in good form, host Romsey Town U23.
