LEAGUE NEWS

We have a mixture of league and cup games this weekend - plenty of league games in both divisions, plus five Southampton Senior Cup ties. In the Senior Division, leaders AFC Shirley are in cup action, so the teams below them will look to take advantage. Third-placed Crofton Saints, now the only team unbeaten, can take over at the top if they win their home game with Moneyfields Res. Fourth-placed Denmead, who lost for the first time in midweek, play their first game at their new home, 32 Acres, and face Whitehill and Bordon, who are on a four-match winning streak. Liss Athletic lost last time out at Shirley and will be looking to get back on track at home to Hedge End Rangers, who have won their last three, so an interesting game is in prospect. Third-bottom Liphook United, winless in six, face a difficult trip to Hook, and second-bottom Stockbridge also have a tricky task as they travel to Meon Milton. Bottom club Andover Town face Southsea Sports, only three places above them, at the Portway. Division One sees leaders Overton United bid to gain their fifth league win in a row as they host Hayling United, who gained their first win last weekend. Just behind them, AFC Netley, who have won their first three league games, travel to Paulsgrove, who may be winless in the league, but have just won two cup games on penalties against Senior Division teams. Unbeaten Silchester are fourth and have a home game against Mob Albion, who won their first league game of the season last weekend. Headley United are bottom, and have a tough-looking trip to Rushmoor Community, who are fifth. Hedge End Town have a home game against Twentyten. In the Southampton Senior Cup, we have a couple of all-HPFL ties; there is an attractive game at Broughton where the home team, in sixth place in the Senior Division, play leaders AFC Shirley. Two teams from opposite ends of Division One also play each other as Whiteley Wanderers host Nursling & Shirley. The other ties involve HPFL teams against Southampton League Premier sides; at Priory Park, Bishops Waltham Dynamos v Fordingbridge Turks could be a good one; Locks Heath, fresh from a midweek win over Denmead to go second in the Senior Division, travel to Bournemouth to play Select Generation, a football academy with a lot of young international players; and BTC Southampton are at home to Sporting Wessex

After our League Cup weekend last Saturday, we are mainly back to league games this time around, with a couple of Portsmouth Senior Cup games thrown in. They involve a big game between two of the top three teams in the Senior Division, Locks Heath hosting unbeaten Denmead. The two teams meet again in the league next Tuesday. Southsea Sports also host Paulsgrove, conquerors of Liphook United last weekend. FIXTURES In the Senior Division, AFC Shirley moved into top spot in midweek and host fifth-placed Liss Athletic in what should be a game worth watching. Crofton Saints, in fourth and still unbeaten, are at home to Bishops Waltham Dynamos in another attractive matchup. Meon Milton had a great win at Wessex One Clanfield in midweek and now have a tough trip to Broughton, who are adapting well to life at this level. Bottom club Andover Town are at Sholing to face Hedge End Rangers, who have had two good wins in their first week at their new home. Just above Andover are Stockbridge, who are at home to Whitehill & Bordon, who have won their last three games. Hook host Moneyfields Res, having beaten them 5-0 in the cup last weekend. TABLES In Division One, the top two meet again at Overton Rec where the home team host Nursling & Shirley, having lost to them in the League Cup last Saturday. The other teams with a 100% record, AFC Netley, play Hedge End Town. At Romsey in another big game. Silchester Village are unbeaten and are at home to Headley United, who have conceded 19 goals in their three league and cup games so far. Hayling United have yet to pick up a point from their two league games and are at home to Sway. Twentyten meet Mob Albion, who narrowly lost to US Portsmouth on Tuesday, and Whiteley Wanderers travel to Rushmoor Community. Photo: Ian Grainger

After a busy Bank Holiday weekend, we have a pretty full set of league fixtures coming up before the cup games kick in at the start of next month. In the Senior Division , leaders Locks Heath, the only team with a 100% record, have a home clash with Whitehill & Bordon, who had a good win at Broughton last time out. This is due to be played at 1400 at KGV Cosham. FIXTURES Crofton Saints are second and still unbeaten, they host Hedge End Rangers. Denmead are also still unbeaten and didn't play last weekend; they host bottom club Andover Town who have lost all their games so far, but made it hard for AFC Shirley in their last game. Talking of Shirley, they went into fourth with that win, and have an attractive home clash with sixth-placed Bishops Waltham Dynamos this time out. We have our first A3 derby of the season as Liphook United bid to end a run of three successive defeats when they host fifth-placed Liss Athletic. We have a meeting at the Cockleshell of two mid-table teams who have already shown promise this season so are looking to move up the table as Meon Milton play Hook. TABLES Two teams looking to get back on track after recent defeats meet at Broughton as the home side entertain Southsea Sports, and two teams near the bottom play each other as Moneyfields Res are at home to Stockbridge. In Division One we have only two teams with 100% records, they are both on their travels this weekend - Overton United are at Headley United and Nursling & Shirley are at Whiteley Wanderers. Sway are also undefeated after two games and they host Rushmoor Community. Paulsgrove have lost their two opening games and they travel to BTC Southampton in an interesting match-up - there were two divisions between the teams last season. Hedge End Town are in action for the first time this season and they host Mob Albion. AFC Netley are at home to Twentyten, who had an excellent win at Hayling United last time out.

A Bank Holiday weekend of football to come, and there are games on both the Saturday and the Monday (and even one on Tuesday) in the Senior Division . Leaders Denmead are not in action, so the two other unbeaten teams have a chance to overtake them in the table if they win, but neither have easy games. Locks Heath have a 100% record and have a trip to Broughton on Saturday. Crofton Saints have a home game against Hook on Monday. Hook also must travel on Saturday; they play at Liphook United. AFC Shirley are doing well and have two games at the weekend, they travel to Whitehill & Bordon on Saturday (who got their first win of the season last weekend), and are then at home to Andover Town, who have lost all three of their games so far, on Monday. Also on Saturday, Stockbridge will be looking for their first points of the season when they host Hedge End Rangers. Other games on Monday include Broughton at home to Whitehill & Bordon, Liphook United hosting Meon Milton, and Stockbridge against Bishops Waltham Dynamos, who will be looking to break a run of two defeats on the trot. The game on Tuesday sees Southsea Sports, who have won their last two, at home to Liss Athletic. Division One only has games on the Saturday. Overton United won well at Whiteley last Saturday and this time travel to Paulsgrove, who lost at Nursling & Shirley last weekend on their return to this division. Nursling & Shirley host Rushmoor Community. BTC Southampton celebrated their first game in this league with a win, this weekend they are at home to Silchester Village. The other relegated team, Sway, got a decent point last week at Silchester and this time host Mob Albion. Hayling United will be looking to improve on last weekend's defeat at AFC Netley as they entertain Twentyten, and Headley United play their first game of the season as they travel to Whiteley Wanderers.

This weekend, we have a full complement of Senior Division matches, but it is also the first day of the Division One season. In the Senior Division , we now have three unbeaten sides. Denmead will look to continue their great start with a home game against Liphook United, who ended AFC Shirley's long unbeaten record last time out. Crofton Saints had a great win at Liss Athletic on Tuesday, and they host Andover Town, who have started with two defeats so far, and Locks Heath are at Stockbridge, who have lost all three games so far. Bishops Waltham Dynamos suffered their first loss on Tuesday and will be looking to make amends as they host Broughton. Liss Athletic did the same and they play Hook, who have started well with two wins out of three so far. Two more teams looking to bounce back from their first defeat meet in an attractive-looking game at the Cockleshell as Meon Milton play AFC Shirley . Both Southsea Sports and Hedge End Rangers had their first wins last time out and they face each other at Langstone, which could be an interesting encounter. Whitehill & Bordon are winless in four and are at home to Moneyfields Res. In Division One , the two relegated clubs will be looking to make a swift comeback, and both start with potentially difficult away trips. Paulsgrove travel to Nursling & Shirley, who, as QK Southampton last season, were in the bottom two for quite a while but eventually finished well clear after a good run from January. Sway are at Silchester Village, who finished a creditable fifth on their return to this level least season. Overton United missed out on promotion in their final game and begin this season with a trip to Whiteley Wanderers, who finished second bottom. BTC Southampton, up from the Southampton League, play at Twentyten, who were bottom last season. Two teams who nearly made the top five last season and will be looking to improve even further this time round face each other as AFC Netley host Hayling United (at Romsey Town), and Rushmoor Community, who also had a solid first season, are at Mob Albion, who finished third-bottom last year.

There are seven Senior Division games at the weekend, Broughton and Locks Heath are not in action. We have three teams with two wins from the first two games. Two of them are in action on Saturday; Bishops Waltham Dynamos have an attractive-looking home clash with promoted Crofton Saints, also unbeaten, and AFC Shirley also have a home game, they play Liphook United. Denmead have also had a good start to the season and their home game with Hook, who have won their only game so far, could be an interesting one. So should the game at Liss Athletic, who host Meon Milton in another matchup of unbeaten teams. Two teams who have lost both games face each other at Langstone as Southsea Sports play Stockbridge. Moneyfields Res have also lost two and are at home to Andover Town, the visitors have lost the only game they have played so far. Hedge End Rangers have also made a disappointing start and they look for their first points as they travel to Whitehill & Bordon. We have five more midweek games in the Senior Division next week.

The new season starts this coming weekend with a full programme of Senior Division matches (Division 1 starts on Aug 16th) and we will all be curious to see how everyone shapes up. Liss Athletic had a great end to the season, finishing runners-up and winning the George Mason Memorial Shield. Pre-season, they have already won the Clanfield Cup, so they should be full of confidence. They open their campaign with a home game against Broughton, who also had a fantastic season - champions of Division One and winners of the North Hants Intermediate Cup - in what should be an interesting game. Other teams that finished in the top five last season have tough-looking games for their season openers; Locks Heath, who finished third, travel to Liphook United, who were seventh, and both teams will be looking forward to good campaigns. Bishops Waltham Dynamos continued their great progress last season, finishing fourth, and they start with a tasty-looking home game against Andover Town, who ended up sixth and will surely be looking to challenge for a promotion place this time around. Hedge End Rangers finished a commendable fifth in their return to the Senior Division and will be looking to build on that; they start with a tricky-looking trip to Meon Milton, who also had a solid season in their debut at this level. Two other teams new to the Senior Division who are fancied to do well are AFC Shirley, who won the Southampton League comfortably; they begin with a home game against Moneyfields Res, and Crofton Saints, promoted from Division 1, who also won the League Cup with an impressive performance against Colden Common. They face a trip to Whitehill & Bordon, never an easy place to go. Two teams who will be looking to challenge after doing well last season and having had good pre-seasons are Hook and Southsea Sports (formerly Harvest), who face each other. Denmead host Stockbridge in a battle of two teams who had their moments last season. There are six more games on the following Tuesday; there are two early local derbies as Liphook United host Whitehill & Bordon and a new one - Stockbridge are at home to Broughton. AFC Shirley v Hedge End Rangers could be another interesting match-up.
