WEEKEND PREVIEW - 9 MAY

8 May 2026

This coming Saturday sees our Cup Final day, with two matches, another cup final for one of our teams, and four scheduled league games.

Our Cup Final day is at the ground of Baffins Milton Rovers, and comprises the following games.

1030:

The George Mason Memorial Shield final, which is between two teams who have had contrasting fortunes this season; the Blues of Andover Town turned down a promotion to the Southern League less than ten years ago and this season they find themselves bottom of our Senior Division. BTC, on the other hand, came up as runners-up in the Southampton Saturday League last season and have clinched an excellent third place in our Division 1. They are in good form, having won their last five games. A good game is in prospect.

1400:

The uhlsport Hampshire Premier League Cup final sees the Owls of AFC Shirley, who won the Southampton Saturday League last season, and who have finished in third place in a very competitive Senior Division this season, take on the Senior Division champions Locks Heath, who are therefore going for the double. Current form favours the Owls; they have won their last eight games, but Locks have proved overall to have been the most consistent side this season. From 2022 to 2024 Locks lost three League Cup finals in a row, so they would love to change their luck this year. Both teams have beaten good opposition on their way to the final.

The other cup final on Saturday is the Aldershot Intermediate Cup Final, to be held at Aldershot Town at 1500, and Senior Division Whitehill & Bordon will be looking to lift the trophy for the second year in succession, having beaten Rushmoor Community on penalties in last year's final. They face Binfield Development, very much an unknown quantity.

There are also four league games scheduled for Saturday:

In the Senior Division, Liphook United could finish eleventh if they win by more than two goals against second-bottom Stockbridge. Liphook have won four out of their last five games, thereby escaping a bottom three place, and would doubless like to finish the season on a high.

In Division One, Nursling & Shirley will clinch fourth place with a result against second-bottom Mob Albion. The Twentyten v Hayling United match will see the winner finish ninth, but a draw would see Sway remain ninth. Seventh play eighth at the NormRod as Hedge End Town host Headley United, either team could finish as high as sixth if results go their way.
