WEEKEND PREVIEW - 3 FEBRUARY

Feb 02, 2024

It's the quarter-finals of the Hampshire Saturday Trophy this weekend, and six of our teams make up the last eight, a tremendous achievement.

Three cracking ties are on the agenda - holders Colden Common face a tricky trip to Front Lawn to face Harvest. Both teams knocked out top two Isle of Wight teams in the previous round. Hedge End Town are at home to Crofton Saints, who are top of the Southampton League and are a very good team (the editor has seen them recently) - this should also be well worth watching. And no less interesting is the game at Hook, who are at home to Southampton League giant-killers Winsor United Green, who have already beaten HPFL opposition in this competition.

FIXTURES

We also have the final quarter-final game in the George Mason Memorial Shield, an all-Senior Division affair as Sway host Stockbridge.

And there is an interesting cup tie in the Aldershot Intermediate Cup, where Senior Division Whitehill & Bordon are at home to Division One Headley United

The league games also have some keenly-anticipated matchups - in the Senior Division, leaders Infinity are at home to Paulsgrove, who have risen to fifth after some good recent performances. There's another attractive game on the list as third placed Liphook United host fourth-placed Locks Heath. Both Hayling United and Denmead, who meet at Hayling College, will be looking for the win that enables them to put pressure on the top four. And Bishops Waltham Dynamos, another form team, will be looking to climb the table as they travel to bottom club Fleet Spurs.

TABLES

In Division One leaders Hedge End Rangers face a difficult task as they go to AFC Netley, who have won their last two games. Second-placed Whiteley Wanderers, who have lost their last two, also have a tricky trip to Upham. It won't be easy for third-placed Meon Milton either as they travel to an improved Overton United, who are on a winning run of four games in all competitions. There's a clash of bottom-four teams as Twentyten.
