WEEKEND PREVIEW - 27 JANUARY

Jan 25, 2024

Now the frost has gone (for the moment) and the storms have gone (for the moment), maybe we'll get a full set of matches played this weekend!

First off, there is a big local derby for the first of our League Cup quarter-finals this year, as Liphook, third in the Senior Division and with eight wins in all competitions (scoring 32 goals in the process) host Liss Athletic, who scored eleven last Saturday in the Aldershot Intermediate Cup.

FIXTURES

The Senior Division sees leaders Infinity have a tricky away assignment at mid-table Sway, and both Stockbridge, in second, (home to Bishops Waltham Dynamos) and Locks Heath (away to second-bottom Hook), both with games in hand, will be looking to gain ground on them if they slip up. Paulsgrove climbed to sixth after their 4-1 win over Harvest last weekend, and this time out host fifth-placed Hayling United. Only five points separate places 6-14 and either of Colden Common (two good wins in succession) or Moneyfields Res could move up the table as they meet at Oakwood Park. The same applies to Whitehill & Bordon and Harvest, who meet at the BOSC. Bottom club Fleet Spurs face a visit to Denmead, who are also in the mid-table logjam.

TABLE

Whiteley Wanderers were knocked off the top of Division One last weekend after a home defeat to AFC Netley; this weekend it doesn't get easier as they must travel to the Cockleshell to face third-placed Meon Milton. New leaders Hedge End Rangers are at home to Twentyten, who only lost 1-2 at Hedge End Town last week. HET are fourth, with games in hand, and they host bottom side Lyndhurst, who were well beaten by HER last weekend. Fifth-placed Headley United have a difficult task at mid-table Upham. AFC Netley are at home to third-bottom Michelmersh & Timsbury, and second-last Broughton face an improving Overton United.
