WEEKEND PREVIEW - 10 FEBRUARY

Feb 09, 2024

A full programme of league games is planned for this weekend, with one exception - the remaining Hampshire Saturday Trophy quarter-final game, another all-HPFL Senior Division game at Front Lawn as Denmead take on Liphook United. the winner will join Harvest, Hedge End Town and Southampton League giantkillers Winsor United Green in the semis.

In the Senior Division, leaders Infinity will be looking to bounce back after last week's defeat as they are at home to Sway. With second-placed Liphook in cup action, Stockbridge, in third, need to win at Colden Common to draw level with them, but for Common, at the wrong end of the table, a win could also make a big difference, as only four points separate places 9-15.

TABLES

Locks Heath at home to Paulsgrove is fourth v fifth; the hosts haven't won in five league games and the Grove are on a good run of form, so this could be interesting. The bottom two play each other as Fleet Spurs entertain Hook, but the visitors are 14 points ahead of their opponents and could climb up the table with a win. Moneys Reserves are fourth-bottom and also in dire need of points, but they will find it hard at in-form Bishops Waltham Dynamos. Two matches involve teams that could be termed 'mid-table' but all have hopes of a top six place - Liss Athletic are at home to cup specialists Harvest, and Whitehill & Bordon host Hayling United, who are currently in that sixth position.

RESULTS

In Division One, leaders Hedge End Rangers will be looking to put their big defeat at Netley last week behind them as they travel to fourth-bottom Broughton. If they slip up then Meon Milton could overtake them, but they have a tricky home game against QK Southampton. Whiteley Wanderers, in third, will be also be looking to capitalise on any slip-ups as they host bottom club Lyndhurst.

RESULTS

Cup heroes Hedge End Town, with games in hand on all of these, are in league action this week with a difficult-sounding game at Headley United. AFC Netley could consolidate fifth place as they entertain Michelmersh & Timsbury, and two teams now in mid-table clash at Ray's Field as Upham play Overton United.
