WEEKEND PREVIEW - 24 FEBRUARY

Feb 23, 2024

One cup game this weekend - the Russell-Cotes Cup game, oft-postponed, has now been switched to Front Lawn as Harvest take on Wessex Division One side Follands Sports, who narrowly beat Whiteley Wanderers in the previous round.

In the Senior Division, leaders Infinity have a difficult game at fourth-placed Locks Heath, who ended their poor run last weekend with a good win over Hayling. Title favourites Liphook United, eleven points behind Infinity with eight games in hand, travel to Fleet Spurs, who are bottom, and shipped sixteen goals last weekend.

TABLES

Third placed Stockbridge, who had that remarkable 9-5 win at Hook last Saturday, travel to Whitehill & Bordon, never an easy game. We have a battle of two of the most improved sides in the division as Paulsgrove host Bishops Waltham Dynamos, fifth v sixth. It's tight at the lower end of the table - only three points between positions 10-15 - and most of the sides involved play each other.

Moneyfields Reserves sank to second bottom at the weekend, they play at Hayling United, who are seventh. Colden Common are just above them and go to Liss Athletic, a point ahead of them. And Hook, fourth-bottom, entertain Sway, who had that big win last weekend, but who are only two points better off than their opponents.

RESULTS

In Division 1 the highlight is another episode of El Hedgio at the Norm Rod. Fourth-placed Hedge End Town are only five points behind leaders Hedge End Rangers, but have five games in hand, The Cup game earlier on the season went to penalties, so it should be another close and exciting game. Whiteley Wanderers, in third, could take over the lead if they win their game at Overton United and Rangers lose, since second-placed Meon Milton are not playing. Only three points separate the bottom three, who are all in action.

FIXTURES

Last-placed Michelmersh & Timsbury host fifth-placed Upham, and the two teams just above then play each other at Wellands Road as Lyndhurst, who have won their last two matches, host Twentyten. Broughton, fourth-bottom, travel to AFC Netley, who are challenging for a top five place, as are the two teams in the remaining fixture, Headley United v QK Southampton.
