WEEKEND PREVIEW - 13 JANUARY

Jan 11, 2024

We start with four Hampshire Saturday Trophy matches involving our clubs, three which are carried over from last Saturday.

All clubs face interesting opposition from different leagues. Holders Colden Common host the top team on the island, Whitecroft & Barton Sports, in the tie of the day. Liphook face a difficult-sounding trip to Rushmoor Community of the Aldershot League, Hedge End Town face Aldershot Town's U23 Suburban League side, who won well at Hedge End Rangers in the last round, and Denmead host US Portsmouth Res, who have already beaten Locks Heath.

FIXTURES

Another big cup tie sees AFC Netley take on Bashley in the Southampton Senior Cup at Station Road, with kick-off at 2pm.

In the Senior Division, leaders Infinity face a potentially tricky game at Paulsgrove. Stockbridge have climbed into second after a run of five league wins in a row, and will be tested at fifth-placed Hayling United.

Locks Heath, in fourth, will be looking to challenge the leaders, and have a home game with Bishops Waltham Dynamos, who need the win to keep clear of the relegation zone. Hook are just above Dynamos and at home to Sway, while Liss Athletic face Moneyfields Reserves. Bottom club Fleet Spurs face Whitehill & Bordon.

CURRENT LEAGUE STANDINGS

In Division One, leaders Whiteley Wanderers have another attractive home game at Oasis Mayfield as they face fourth-placed Headley United, who disappointed at Overton last time out. If Whiteley slip up then Meon Milton, in second, can overtake them at the top by beating bottom side Lyndhurst. Hedge End Rangers, in third, can do the same, but they would have to win at Upham. Second-bottom Michelmersh & Timsbury are at home to QK Southampton, looking to catch up on the top 5.

We also have an all-Division One clash in the North Hants Intermediate Cup, as Twentyten take on Overton United.
