WEEKEND PREVIEW - FEB 25

Feb 24, 2023

The George Mason Memorial Shield reaches its semi-final stage, and one eagerly-awaited tie is Andover New Street Swifts at home to Denmead, both being leading teams in the Senior Division. The other tie could be pretty exciting too, as Upham, doing well in Division One, host another Senior Division side, in Liphook United.

Hook host Twentyten in the semi-finals of the North Hants Intermediate Cup, an appetising clash between two teams in the top five in Division One, with Broughton awaiting the winners in the final, and Headley United play Petersfield Town Reserves in the Aldershot Intermediate Cup.

COMING-UP - FIXTURES

Turning back to League matters - in the Senior Division it's still very tight at the top, with the leading six all fighting it out and jockeying for position.

Colden Common are our new leaders, having recorded a crucial 1-0 at erstwhile top dogs Andover New Street Swifts last Tuesday, and they have a tough trip to Whitehill and Bordon, fresh from their win over Stockbridge last Saturday.

LEAGUE TABLES

Locks Heth are back in third after a 2-0 home win over Hayling United on Tuesday, and they will hope to keep the pressure on with an away trip to bottom club Overton United. A big meeting of the two clubs who have applied for promotion sees fourth-placed Clanfield play fifth-placed Stockbridge at Westleigh Park.

Down near the bottom, there is a vital game too, as second-bottom Moneyfields Reserves play third-bottom QK Southampton, this fixture reversed to the Hive.

Hayling United will be looking to move further away from the bottom three, but they have a tough trip to Harvest, and the four clubs clustered around the middle of the table all play each other as Winchester Castle play Paulsgrove and Liss Athletic travel to Sway. All bar Paulsgrove lost last weekend.

In Division One, leaders Hook are in cup action, so Infinity have a chance to overtake them again with a home win over AFC Netley. The bottom two clash as Lyndhurst host Michelmersh and Timsbury (pictured). The visitors are eight points behind the hosts, with three games in hand. Meon Milton are at home to AFC Petersfield knowing that a win would put pressure on the top six.
