WEEKEND PREVIEW - SEPTEMBER 7

5 September 2024

It's League Cup weekend, and there are fifteen ties to look forward to, with some possible upsets on the horizon...

There are several ties where Division One teams play Senior Division teams, the Senior Division teams have home advantage in most cases.

There are three exceptions: Hedge End Town may fancy their chances against Paulsgrove, who are bottom of the Senior Division; Mob Albion take on Denmead, both teams are mid-table, but Mob have only lost one of their last four and Denmead have lost their last two; and AFC Netley entertain Hook - both teams have had decent starts to the season.

FIXTURES

Division One teams travelling to Senior Division opposition bring up a fascinating tie with Broughton, flying high at the top of their league with five wins out of five, going to Andover Town, who were in Wessex Division One last season, and are improving after a slow start to life in the HPFL. Silchester Village have had a decent start to life in Division One but must travel to Cup holders Bishops Waltham Dynamos.

Neither Sway nor Twentyten have enjoyed the best of starts to the season and they meet at Jubilee Field. Several Division One teams face tough journeys to teams in the top five of of the Senior Division: Hayling United, yet to win in Division One, travel to Colden Common; Headley United go to Hedge End Rangers; Overton United are at leaders Liphook United; and Rushmoor Community travel to Meon Milton.

RESULTS

There are some close-looking ties between teams in the Senior Division: Liss Athletic are at home to Harvest, Locks Heath play Whitehill & Bordon; and Stockbridge entertain Moneyfields Res.

There are also two matches between Division One sides: Whiteley Wanderers play Upham in what promises to be a good game, and second-placed Crofton Saints are at home to QK Southampton, who have no points and have shipped 31 goals in their five games so far.

A reminder that teams losing on Saturday will still have a chance of cup glory as they will take their place in the George Mason Memorial Shield.
