WEEKEND PREVIEW - 27 APRIL

Apr 26, 2024

It's Cup Finals day this coming weekend!

At 1100 we have the George Mason Memorial Shield, an all-Division 1 clash as Upham play Hedge End Town - fifth against fourth, so it should be a close game.

At 1500 we have the uhlsport Hampshire Premier League Cup final, with two Senior Division teams facing each other, as Bishops Waltham Dynamos, in seventh after a poor recent run, face Locks Heath, currently doing well in second; however, Locks have lost the last two finals, so anything could happen!

Please note that the venue for the finals is now AFC Totton.

FIXTURES

We also have several league games - the situation at the top of both leagues should be much clearer after Saturday. In the Senior Division, Liphook United could clinch the title with four games to spare if they beat bottom club Fleet Spurs at home. The battle for fourth is on after Colden Common's 4-0 win over Liss Athletic in midweek, especially when Liss must travel to fifth-placed Stockbridge this weekend, and Common, now in sixth with games in hand over the other two, travel to Hayling, who also need the points urgently, as they can still be caught by Moneyfields Res, who are second-bottom with games in hand over Hayling. Moneys Res play Hook in another game at the new Cosham facility. Two teams stuck in mid-table play each other at Marsden Road as Paulsgrove take on Whitehill & Bordon.

TABLES

In Division 1, leaders Hedge End Rangers, already guaranteed a top-two place, play their last game, at home to third-bottom Broughton. Meon Milton can still pip them to the title if they win all their games in hand, and on Saturday they host QK Southampton at the Cockleshell. If Meon win they are also guaranteed a top two place. If they lose and HER win, then HER will be champions. Whiteley Wanderers, in third, travel to Twentyten looking to avenge the 2-1 home defeat by the same team in midweek, but that victory was Twentyten's seventh win in their last ten matches, so they are in fine form. Lyndhurst, second bottom, entertain mid-table Headley United.
