TOP TWO TOPPLED!

May 14, 2023

It was an afternoon to forget for the Senior Division's top two with both Colden Common and Clanfield defeated on the road.

Common let a two-goal lead slip at Liss Athletic in a preverbial game of two halves at Newman Collard - Dan Clark (main picture) with a brace before Harry Stanbridge slotted the winner near the end for Mark Glazier's improving side.

The Stallions remain on-course for back-to-back titles in continuing to head the pack with games in hand on second-placed Clanfield - and can do it on Wednesday evening at Westleigh Park against Moneyfields Reserves (8pm), should they better Clanfield's result at Liphook United the same evening (6.45pm).

TABLES

Only Clanfield have beaten Colden Common in the League this season - yet Lee Blakely's promotion contenders were beaten in a local derby at Paulsgrove - Joe Boxall with the only goal of the game at Marsden Road.

FIXTURES

Elsewhere, Denmead enjoyed a 4-1 home success over Hayling United, while Locks Heath will finish fourth after completing their campaign with a 1-2 victory at Winchester Castle.

Liphook United found Hartley Wintney's U23's too strong in the Aldershot Mark Coombs Intermediate Cup final, going down 3-0 in the showpiece at Aldershot Town's EBB Stadium, but will have no doubt enjoyed the experience of playing at a National League ground.

Meanwhile Division One is now completed, with Whiteley Wanderers handing hitting eight against basement side Michelmersh & Timsbury who had one in reply, in the only remaining fixture, played at Oasis Academy.
