LYNDHURST OFF THE MARK

Paul Harris • Feb 14, 2022

It was a big afternoon at the foot of the Senior Division, as both the bottom two recorded impressive victories.

Credit to Lyndhurst, whose perseverance finally paid off - chalking up a 5-2 home win against Overton United to claim their first points of the season at the twenty third attempt.

Liss Athletic also secured three points, as they overcame fourth-placed Fleetlands 3-0 at Newman Collard to draw level with Chamberlayne Athletic just above them - defeated 3-2 at Colden Common, who keep in touch in sixth.

Moneyfields Reserves are now three points clear at the top as they had a 4-1 home win over Paulsgrove, while Denmead slipped to a 1-2 defeat to third-placed Locks Heath at Front Lawn, both Locks’ goals by Ryan Bath.

Stockbridge have Locks in their sights, with games in hand, after a 3-0 home win over Winchester Castle; Clanfield strengthened their position in mid-table with an excellent 2-1 win at Hayling United, as do Sway, 3-2 winners over Liphook United.

In Division One North, the battle of the Swifts was postponed, so just the one game, where Hook leapfrogged Silchester into third with a 3-1 home win.

In Division One South East, straightforward wins for the top two, who are therefore still only separated by goal difference – QK Southampton, who also have a game in hand, had a 3-1 home win over AFC Petersfield, and Upham won at Ray’s Farm 3-0 against Broughton.

They will be doubly happy, though, because their nearest challengers, Harvest and Whiteley Wanderers, drew 1-1 at Meadowside. AFC Netley, no points, were unable to gain inspiration from Lyndhurst finally getting off the mark in the Senior Division, as they went down 0-6 at home to Michelmersh & Timsbury.

Meon Milton meanwhile continued their impressive cup form - booking a second semi-final appearance in the space of seven days in seeing off Headley United of Division One North in the League Cup. They'll face Senior Division opposition in the form of Colden Common in the last four, at Locks Heath on Wednesday, March 2 (7.15pm).
