ROUND-UP - MARCH 12

Paul Harris • Mar 13, 2022

Locks Heath have found cup form to compliment their efforts in the Senior Division, although faced a big challenge in competing twice in the space of 48hrs this week, both against Wessex Premier League opposition.

On Tuesday evening, Dave Fuge's side were defeated 0-4 at Moneyfields in the semi-final of the Portsmouth Senior Cup - three of the goals coming late on - and on Thursday they went down 0-2 at Alresford Town in the Southampton Senior Cup after again giving a good account of themselves.

Stockbridge also exited Southampton Senior Cup to end of our teams’ interest in this competition, losing 1-2 at home to AFC Stoneham Res, who have proved a real bogey side for our sides this season.

On Saturday, the Senior Division’s undoubted match of the day saw Denmead beat fourth-placed Fleetlands 2-1 to preserve their one point lead over Moneyfields Res, who have three games in hand.

Moneys (pictured) left it late against basement side, Lyndhurst, coming from behind to win by the odd goal in three. Locks Heath stay in third after a 3-1 home success over Hayling United, and Stockbridge - with a game in hand - move level on points with Fleetlands after an excellent 1-0 win at in-form Clanfield.

Sway have still failed to record a league draw this season, their twenty-first game ending in a 3-1 win over Liss Athletic.

In Division 1 North, just the one game again; a 1-3 defeat for Headley United at Hook means that if Whitehill and Bordon beat Silchester in the last game of the season, they will pip Headley for second place.

In Division 1 South East, both games were postponed, so Meon Milton still have some catching-up to do, largely thanks to their Cup prowess this season - with a semi-final in the League Cup to come in ten days’ time, against Sway.

Only one game played in the L4 Challenge Cup in a match-up between Harvest of Division One SE, seeing off Twentyten - of Division One NE, 6-1.
