CHAMPIONS!

Colden Common are the Hampshire Premier League Senior Division champions, completing their remarkable late run to hit the top of the table on the final day.

Connor Doswell and Nath Morgan's side struggled to reproduce the form that has seen eight wins from their last ten, from Saturday's 1-1 draw at Hayling United - but a point was all they needed to claim their first championship since 2009/10.

However, things weren't going to plan at the interval, with Dan Goodsell's opener putting the Humbugs ahead following a defensive mix-up - the first goal Common had conceded in their last six. At this stage, current leaders, Denmead, were in the driving seat to collect their first title.

Tactical changes followed in the second period as Common searched for that crucial break through - and they got it courtesy of a Ben White penalty with eighteen minutes remaining.

After a four week absence, Hayling competed well and nearly spoiled the party, stopping their own dismal end of season run which had six defeats from their previous seven. A performance amongst a young group of players which will appease boss, Dan Bishop, as he prepares for another go come August.

It's been a fiercely contested title race which saw the top four separated by just two points in the end. Moneyfields Reserves - under recently departed boss, Lee Mould - led for large parts and were odds-on favourites, with Denmead putting together their own run, only to be pipped by Colden Common on the final day - the only time this season the Stallions have hit the summit.

TABLES

Elsewhere, promotion-chasing Fleetlands finished in third spot after a convincing 4-1 away win at Winchester Castle. Two Senior Division fixtures were postponed - Paulsgrove unable to field a side at Sway, while basement outfit Lyndhurst likewise at Liphook United (matches to be awarded).

In Division One South East, Meon Milton won their final fixture 1-5 at Michelmersh & Timsbury to finish fourth, with the Portsmouth-based side expecting a further three points after Clarendon were unable to field a side earlier in the campaign.
